Have you ever considered how great it is for the riches of Christ to be unsearchable. This would mean that we will never find an end to them. The word unsearchable can be divided into three parts. The first being the negative 'un' or 'a' in the Greek, which means no or not. Then, their is 'out.' And last the part means 'searched.' This word is from a root word meaning 'steps.' Thus, if we put it together we get, 'cannot be stepped out.' What a great word! What it means is that if we were to try to step off our riches in Christ, as if we were stepping off a piece of property, we would not be able to find its borders.
This thought would help us to comprehend what Paul was wanting all saints to comprehend in Ephesians 3:17-19: 'That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. I now know how large the love of Christ is for me. The word 'to comprehend' means 'to get a hold of',' so Paul was wanting us to comprehend that we will never find an end to the love of God. We will never find the bottom, nor the height, nor the length, nor the breadth of the riches of Christ.
However, this does not mean that we are not to try to search them out. That would be seeing them in a negative light. It does not mean that the riches of Christ cannot be found, but that we will never find an end to them. Since this is true, we preachers should never have trouble finding something fresh to preach. If our preaching is stale, it is not because God is stale, but that we have stopped searching for the unsearchable!
