The Sense of Hearing
"Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath; to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have."
Luke 8:18

The sense of hearing is probably the most important of the five senses. For with it (hearing) comes all the knowledge and understanding of spiritual blessings. However, some think because they are not deaf this automatically lets them in on spiritual things. Jesus said we are to take heed how we hear because listening carefully can let us in on blessings from God not even known (I Cor. 2:9-13.) We also know that in Romans 10:17, faith cometh by hearing. In Isaiah 55:3 it says to hear and you shall live. This is why Jesus said "for whosoever hath; to him shall be given." The hath is referring to ears. Remember, Jesus said he that hath ears, let him hear.

Not listening; however, can be very costly, for Jesus said, "he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have." Listening carefully can help destroy the imagination or eliminate what you think you have. For example, for years I thought I was saved, but on more careful examination and listening to the truth, I discovered that I was not. What I seemed to have was not really there. The tragedy would have been for me to have waited till judgment to hear that what I thought I had, I really did not have. So at that time what I seemed to have would be taken away.

God help us and give us grace to hear with attentive and careful ears.
