True Worshipers Know and Understand
the Source of Salvation

'Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.'
- John 4:22-24

When Jesus was talking to the woman at the well, he explained to her that she was not a true worshiper because she did not know what she worshiped. I must point out that he said what not who. This is because a person must understand something (what) about God to worship him truly. Jesus gave a couple of what's in these verses. One was the source of salvation and the second was that God was a spirit. I would like to deal with the first, the source of salvation.

In order to truly worship one must understand that God will have salvation proceed from himself and his way. The little word of in verse 22 means, the point from which an action proceeds. Thus the point from which salvation would come to man was the Jews. It was promised to our father Abraham and this is God's chosen way. To dislike this is to dislike God and turn worship into a lie.

The truth of the source of salvation will separate many so called worshipers from the real ones. Not only is salvation of the Jews, but more specifically of Jesus Christ. Acts 4:12 "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." There are many in the world today who says they worship God, but believe that the way of salvation is different for every man. To some it might be by Buddha, to some it might be by Muhammad. A true worshiper knows that salvation is only through Christ who was a Jew, born of the tribe of Judah.

The source of salvation can be taken even further. Below are listed some truth of salvation that every real worshippers know and understand.

1. Our love for God came from God. (I John 4:10)

2. Our desire for God came from God. (John 15:16)

3. Our faith in God came from God. (Hebrews 12:2, Galatians 2:20)

4. Our coming to God came from God. (John 6:44 & 65)

These truths cause us to worship and adore God who would loves the unlovable, desires the undesirable, gives faith to the unbeliever, and comes after those who have gone astray to their own way. Truly, we are saved by grace.
