HOW
SALVATION WAS
PROVIDED
?
God in
His
infinite knowledge, and out of divine
love and mercy, instituted a means whereby He might recover fallen man
without doing harm to His own character or His predetermined will and
purpose,
while at the same time in no way eliminating or defeating the will of
mankind.
This means of providing Salvation was:
I.
Revealed in the
Old Testament times by providing
types and shadows that appear to some to be an alternate way of
salvation,
they were actually given in certain expectation of their fulfillment in
the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ - Hebrews 8:5, 9:9&24,
10:1, 11:19; I Peter 3:21.
II.
Accomplished
by:
A. Satisfying the requirements
of God through the substitutionary sacrifice of the
Lord
Jesus Christ:
1. Satisfying the requirement of righteousness - Romans 5:18-21; I
Corinthians
1:30;
II Peter 1:1; I John 2:1; Isaiah 45:13, 59:16-17; Jeremiah 23:6.
2. Satisfying the requirement of obedience to the law -
Matthew 5:17; Romans 5:19; Matthew 3:15.
3. Satisfying the requirement of penalty for sin -
Ephesians 5:2; Hebrews 9:26, 10:12; II Corinthians 5:21; Isaiah 53:4-12.
4. Satisfying the requirement of Justice -
Romans 3:24-26, 4:25, 5:9; I Timothy 3:16; I Peter 3:18.
B. Redeeming or paying the
price for man who was sold under sin - Romans 7:14;
II
Chronicles 29:24; Luke 1:68; Galatians 3:13, 4:5; Ephesians 1:7; Titus
2:14;
I
Peter 1:18-19.
C. Reconciling to Himself
man, who was at enmity with Him - Romans 5:10-11;
II
Corinthians 5:18-19; Ephesians 2:16; Colossians 1:20-21; Hebrews 2:17.
D. All these things having
been accomplished by the Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 11:36;
I
Corinthians 8:6; Ephesians 1:10; Hebrews 1:3), thus giving God power to
save
(Romans
1:16, 16:25; I Corinthians 1:18&24; Ephesians 1:19-20; Jude 1:24;
Hebrews
2:18) all who will come to Him (Hebrews 7:25).
