But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In
whom the god of this world hath
blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of
the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto
them.
-II Corinthians 4:3-4.
Have you ever tried to drive at night in a heavy fog? It can be very difficult to do. A fog can be so thick that even a well lit city street may be taxing to travel. And once you leave the lights of the city and head for the countryside, travel becomes treacherous. Following a very familiar route can be frustrating because of the limited visibility. It is challenging to find landmarks and turns. You may become disoriented on a road that you have traveled many times. And finally, you may end up lost.
Many people are confident that they know how to get to God. Many people are confident that they know how to get to God. These people are comfortable with the religious road upon which they are traveling. They reason that they have read the Bible, gone to Church, and possibly were even born to Christian parents. They are confident that their good works will outweigh the wrong things that they have done. If they have read the Bible and have heard the truth of God preached about salvation, they have had access to a lighted way. However, by assuming that works, heritage, or knowledge qualifies them to be saved, they have entered a fog and have become disoriented. Failing to follow the Way (the Lord Jesus) they ignorantly light upon another path; a path leading to destruction.
How carefully one should travel with God. Read the following passage from Hebrews 3:12-4:1: Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses. But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness? And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief. Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
Remember, it is possible for the way to become foggy while traveling. Use caution and be wise. Slow down, watch and listen carefully. God has given you a light and voice to follow. Pay close attention to that which you have been given. When the fog lifts, may you be found in the right Way.
