A Good Dad

Have you ever had aspirations of making some great contribution to the cause of Christ: being a "great" preacher, writer, singer, missionary, soul-winner, prayer warrior, etc.? Wouldn't that be an honor? Some of these aspirations may just be dreams (especially, in my case, the one regarding the great singer) and some may actually be what God has for you. All of these are great things. But one day God asked me the question, "If all you ever did was to raise your children to be Godly people, would you be satisfied with that?" At first, this prospect didn't seem to be too appealing. I wanted to do something "great" for God and this didn't qualify in my eyes.

Upon further consideration, God began to show me the importance of this task. 1. In this day and age it's a small miracle that any children grow up to be Godly s. And it takes a great effort by the parents to help accomplish this. 2. You don't know who your child might be and what he or she might do for God. Your little boy might just be God's man to lead some little flock or your little might possibly be a preacher's wife. 3. What could be greater than helping set your children in the narrow way and pointing them in the direction of Christ? "Flesh and " don't inherit the kingdom, but we can show them what life is like in the kingdom. Consider Timothy and the influence his mother and grandmother had upon him (II Timothy 1:5). Their hibited an unfeigned faith. That is, one without hypocrisy. They lived every day, whether at church or at home, trusting in God. May we live in such a way that our children see that our faith is in God; not just with words, but by our actions also.

God changed the way I looked at the contribution that could be made to his cause by being a Godly parent. There is more honor in raising children than I thought. Just think about it, Lois and Eunice's names are recorded in the Scriptures. And all they did was believe God in front of their children. All we have to do is love God, believe Him, and follow Him.

I want to love my kids the same way my heavenly Father loves me, hopefully giving them a physical picture of the spiritual relationship with God the Father.

I would get great satisfaction from seeing one of my children loving God with all their heart. I pray God would grant you and I the grace to love God with all our hearts, possibly touching our children in the process.

Let us be good stewards of what (who) God has given us!
