A Fool I Would Be…
By: Dale Owen
A fool I would be not to be thankful for what God has done in my life. The parents He gave me, the sister that loves me and still calls me her little brother.
A fool I would be not to be thankful for the walls He placed around me as a young man. I wanted to wonder and experience the world, but God hemmed me in. I am thankful my mother and father taught me to do right, speak the truth and be fair in all dealings with people. Who also taught me to love God and the church, for encouraging me to develop my talent for music and art as a young man.
I am thankful for the time I met Patsy Coleman on a church hayride. The joy and faithfulness she has been to me over the years is God’s handiwork. I would be foolish not to be thankful for her love and devotion, for doing the laundry, making the beds, raising the kids. I would be a fool not to be thankful for the times God has helped us financially.
Thank you Lord for moving us to Kansas City, MO., Shreveport and Monroe, LA, Tulsa, OK, Memphis, TN, and finally to Pontotoc, MS. Thank you Lord for all the people that have crossed my path during those years. Thank you Lord for my three children and nine grandchildren.
Most of all I am thankful for the day you showed me I was lost. Thank you God for giving to me a son that You wanted to save and use to teach us the truth. Thank you God for opening my understanding. Had you not done it that way I would still be lost. You are a great God.
May the rest of my life be an example of my thankfulness. That it would be an exception if I fail to be thankful. May my daily walk and talk show others that I am thankful. Just as the trees wave in adoration, may by hands raise to you in thanksgiving. I cannot, I cannot be silent about your wonderful love and goodness to me. Thank you God, thank you Jesus, thank you Holy Spirit for being so real to me on that great day in February 1995. I love you God.
