The kids and God have been at it again! God has been speaking again through my children. One of my most favorite and cherished moments with my children is when, after a long hard day, they fall asleep in my arms. I love to carry them to bed, their head nuzzled between my neck and shoulder, with their arms dangling limply to their sides. It is at this point that they are completely at rest in the arms of their father. As a father, I love for my children to be completely at rest in the comfort of my arms. I know that they trust me for their safety, provision, and well-being. It gives me great joy to provide that for them. I also know, therefore how God feels when I am completely at rest in Him. He's getting to do what He loves to do - take care of his child.
In this situation I also have the benefit of knowing the child's point of view. I remember as a child my father taking me up the stairs to bed, my body folded limply over his shoulder. My dad did all the work! All I had to do was rest in his arms! I recall how loved I felt, being carried in his arms - safe and secure. As a child of God all I have to do is let God do the work and rest in his ability to take me where I need to go.
God will relate to you no matter what you're station in life: father, son; mother, daughter; employer, employee; pastor, sheep; husband, wife; etc. You don't have to have a doctorate of theology for God to speak his loves to you, just be His child. As a parent, I relate to my children at whatever level they are on. I do not try to carry on much of a conversation with my son Hayden, who is one year old. That would be ridiculous! I mainly play with him, attend to his needs, and love on him. I do not expect him to understand some things. In the same way, God does not expect us to understand some things. And just as I would not scold my son for not understanding my conversation with his three year old sister, neither does God scold one of His young ones for not understanding everything He tells the pastor. I want to love on my son just as much as my little girl, and I find ways to express that love to both of them. So does God with all of His children.
So be happy with where you are and let God speak His loves to you.
All
of us have been children at some time, so fall asleep in His arms and
let
Him carry you to bed, resting in His arms! Oh what blessed sleep you
will
have! For He giveth his beloved sleep. - Mark Harding
